The Ducks, Honda Center and ABC7 joined forces with the American Red Cross of Orange County to host a fundraising drive at the venue that raised more than $500,000 for the victims of Superstorm Sandy.

On Thursday monetary donations were accepted in support of the victims of the tragedy. The storm knocked out power to more than 8.2 million households, destroyed hundreds of homes and killed at least 50 people. Preliminary estimates showed the storm could cost between $10 -$20 billion in damage repair.

Funds raised totaled $512,963.93, including a $10,000 donation from Ducks owners Henry & Susan Samueli via the Samueli Foundation.

Monetary donations collected will be used to provide Red Cross services to those affected by the storm. Television station ABC7 was on hand, doing live remote broadcasts from Honda Center throughout the day.

The American Red Cross, a humanitarian organization led by volunteers, provides relief to victims of disasters and helps people prevent, prepare for, and respond to emergencies. The Orange County Chapter of the organization has been providing services to the community since 1898. Officially recognized in 1965, the Orange County Chapter now serves 34 cities and covers more than 950 square miles.
