The Ducks were back on the ice this morning in preparation for tomorrow’s home opener against the Vancouver Canucks. The Canucks are coming off a 3-2 shootout victory over the Flames last night. Tomorrow will be the Canucks’ first road game of the season.

ROOM FOR IMPROVEMENT
There’s always room for improvement, as the saying goes. During the last two practices, the Ducks have put in extra time working on their penalty killing, which currently ranks 30th (42.9%) in the league.

On what’s being worked on in practice: “Just different things that we were exposed in during the last two games; working on our neutral zone, getting that down pat, and our penalty kill and power play. Those are the three things that, if we’re rock solid, we’re going to have a lot of success.” – Corey Perry

“I still think that we have to do a better job on our [penalty kill]. We definitely have to do a better job. We’ve talked about it and watched video. We’re definitely looking forward to our next games when we can prove that we can do better.” – Jonas Hiller

“I think we needed two good days of practice because there were a lot of things that were pretty sloppy in the Calgary game. There were a lot of things I liked: We held them to one shot in the first 12 minutes of the game and in the first 12 minutes of the third period we held them to one shot, so those things we liked. But there were a lot of ways we were playing that aren’t conducive to winning. We tried to correct these a little bit in practice time, because once you start getting in the heat of these things, there’s going to be no practice time.” – Bruce Boudreau

EXCITED FOR THE HOME OPENER
“It’s great to be back. We have passionate fans here in Anaheim. Hopefully we can put on a good show. Any time you can play in front of your home fans – passionate and cheering fans – it’s definitely a big emotional boost for the team and we just feed off of that energy.” – Perry

“We love our fans here and we’re hungry to see them, as well. We’re excited to show up tomorrow and see all the support. We’re really excited to be here tomorrow.” – Ryan Getzlaf

“It’s going to be exciting. You’re always thinking about the home opener and we need to make sure we recognize the fans’ support and patience. [The team] is looking forward to playing for them tomorrow night.” – Cam Fowler

BACK IN BLACK
Rookie defenseman Hampus Lindholm took to the ice today wearing a black practice jersey after skating in an orange non-contact jersey yesterday. With the top-three defensive pairings set, Lindholm’s partners were Jordan Hendry and Sami Vatanen for the majority of practice. Lindholm was Anaheim’s first selection (sixth overall) in the 2012 NHL Draft.
