The Ducks have reassigned right wing Rickard Rakell to the Plymouth Whalers of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL).
Rakell, 19 (5/5/93), appeared in four games with the Ducks this season, going scoreless while averaging 8:57 time-on-ice (TOI). Selected in the first round (30th overall) of the 2011 NHL Entry Draft, Rakell made his NHL debut on Jan. 19 at Vancouver as a member of Anaheim’s season-opening roster, logging 9:49 TOI.
The 6-1, 191-pound winger represented Sweden at the 2013 IIHF World Junior Championship in Ufa, Russia, helping lead the team to a silver medal. He finished the tournament pacing Sweden in assists and co-leading the team in scoring (0-6=6). Rakell began the season with Plymouth, earning 13-17=30 points with a +10 rating and 12 penalty minutes (PIM) in 32 games. Rakell has played three OHL seasons with Plymouth, scoring 61-76=137 points with a +33 rating and 36 PIM in 141 career games.
