Ducks Sign Kurtz To One-Year Entry-Level Contract

The Ducks have signed left wing John Kurtz to a one-year entry-level contract. Per club policy, financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Kurtz, 23 (5/16/89), has appeared in 54 games for Norfolk this season, scoring 3-5=8 points with a +3 rating and 98 penalty minutes (PIM). Signed to an AHL contract on Sept. 21, 2012, Kurtz has played 121 career AHL games with Norfolk (2012-13) and Syracuse (2010-12), collecting 9-7=16 points with 247 PIM.

A native of Oakville, Ontario, Kurtz played four seasons in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) with Windsor (2006-07) and Sudbury (2007-10). In 251 career OHL games, Kurtz compiled 71-72=143 points with 175 PIM. The 6-2, 210-pound winger also appeared in 10 career OHL Playoff games with Sudbury, earning 1-2=3 points with four PIM. As captain of the Sudbury Wolves in 2008-09 and 2009-10, Kurtz ranked second on the team in goals and fourth in points (30-16=46) in his final OHL season.
