The National Hockey League (NHL) announced today that the Anaheim Ducks will face off against the Los Angeles Kings on Saturday, Jan. 25, 2014 (7 p.m. PST) at Dodger Stadium as part of the 2014 Coors Light NHL Stadium Series™. The Southern California rivals will compete in the first-ever California outdoor NHL game, marking the first time a regular season contest will be played in the United States, West of the Mississippi River. It will also serve as the Southern-most outdoor NHL game in League history.

“We are honored to be selected to participate in the NHL's Stadium Series,” said Ducks Executive Vice President/General Manager Bob Murray. “Playing our rival Kings at historic Dodger Stadium will be a terrific showcase event for our sport. A Southern California outdoor hockey game in a picturesque setting will be an exciting, unique experience, and we look forward to being a part of it.”

Opened on April 10, 1962, Dodger Stadium is the third-oldest continually used park in Major League Baseball. It has hosted more than 147 million fans since it opened. The host for eight World Series and close to 4,000 regular season games, this will be the first time Dodger Stadium will be the home of a hockey game. With its view of Chavez Ravine overlooking downtown Los Angeles and the San Gabriel Mountains, Dodger Stadium has been called one of the treasured cathedrals of baseball with one of the most picturesque settings in sports.

Next season’s Dodger Stadium contest is part of the previously-announced 2014 Coors Light NHL Stadium Series™, a group of regular season games planned for outdoor locations in 2013-14. The NHL recently announced that the 2014 Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic® is scheduled for Wednesday, Jan. 1, when the Detroit Red Wings will play host to the Toronto Maple Leafs at Michigan Stadium. In addition, the Chicago Blackhawks and the Pittsburgh Penguins will participate in the 2014 Coors Light NHL Stadium Series™ on March 1, when they face off at Soldier Field (Chicago, IL).

In the 112-game history between the two clubs, next January’s outdoor game will serve as just the second neutral site in regular season competition. The Ducks and Kings played two contests in London, England at the O2 Arena as part of the 2007 NHL Premiere. The clubs split the contests, with the Kings winning the first game on Sept. 29, 2007 and the Ducks taking the second contest the following night (both 4-1 decisions). The Ducks are 49-41-22 all-time against the Kings, including a 2-2-0 record during the 2012-13 Freeway Faceoff. Anaheim became the first NHL team from California to win the Stanley Cup in 2007, with the Kings following as the second California team to win hockey’s ultimate prize in 2012.

Further details on the historic Jan. 25 outdoor contest at Dodger Stadium, including national broadcast information and specifics on ticket opportunities for Anaheim Ducks season ticket holders will be released shortly.
