Ducks Sign Defenseman Clark to One-Year Contract

The Ducks have signed defenseman Mat Clark to a one-year contract through the 2013-14 NHL season. Per club policy, no financial terms of the deal were disclosed.

Clark, 22 (10/17/90), has played two career NHL games with Anaheim, going scoreless in 2011-12. The 6-3, 225-pound blueliner appeared in his third American Hockey League (AHL) season in 2012-13, scoring 1-9=10 points with 79 penalty minutes (PIM) in a team-leading 71 games with Norfolk. His goal was the overtime game-winner in a 3-2 victory on Feb. 17 at Bridgeport. Following the AHL regular season, Clark was recalled by Anaheim on Apr. 27 but did not appear in the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

Selected by Anaheim in the second round (37th overall) of the 2009 NHL Entry Draft, Clark made his NHL debut on Apr. 1 vs. Edmonton. In 214 career AHL games, the Wheat Ridge, Colorado native has scored 4-34=38 points with 279 PIM in 214 career AHL games. He set career highs in several offensive categories in 2010-11 with Syracuse (AHL), including goals (2), assists (14), points (16), games (80) and PIM (128). He has also appeared in 10 career Calder Cup Playoff games, earning 1-1=2 points with 11 PIM.
