The Ducks announced today the launch of the Anaheim Ducks Learn to Play powered by Ryan Getzlaf & Corey Perry. The program, in its third year of existence, assumes a new name after the Ducks stars committed to join instructional sessions and purchase Bauer equipment for skaters (for keep) who sign up for a hockey program within THE RINKS Development Program presented by Honda. The two players and Ducks owner Henry Samueli were on hand earlier today to kick-off this season’s program at Honda Center with fifth-grade students from Maranatha Christian Academy (Santa Ana), a school currently enrolled in the Anaheim Ducks S.C.O.R.E. Program (Scholastic Curriculum of Recreation & Education).
The Learn to Play hockey program, funded by the Anaheim Ducks Foundation, offers first-time hockey players between the ages of four and 10 the chance to learn to play for free. Participants will receive instruction on the basics of hockey as well as learn how to skate properly during the four-week session run by THE RINKS Development Program presented by Honda. Following this free program, skaters who join a full-season program will be given free Bauer equipment (for keep). Getzlaf and Perry will also make special appearances at Learn to Play events each year. The Learn to Play program is currently available at six RINKS locations (ice and inline). Participants with be provided with skates, shoulder and elbow pads, shin guards, a helmet, hockey pants, gloves and a jersey.
The on-ice portion of the 2013-14 Learn to Play four-week introductory program begins Saturday, Sept. 28 at THE RINKS – Westminter ICE (2:10 p.m.) and runs four consecutive weekends (also Oct. 5, Oct. 12, Oct. 19). THE RINKS - Corona Inline is currently running a Learn to Play session for inline skaters, with additional inline sessions planned for THE RINKS - Huntington Beach Inline (October), as well as THE RINKS - Irvine Inline (November). On-ice sessions are also planned for THE RINKS - Lakewood ICE (November) and THE RINKS – Yorba Linda ICE. Please visit AnaheimDucks.com/learntoplay for more details. Due to high demand, some sessions are already sold out, so early registration is highly recommended.
Launched in February 2009, THE RINKS Development Program presented by Honda now consists of seven local skating facilities operated by the Anaheim Ducks: four ice rinks (THE RINKS – Anaheim ICE, THE RINKS - Lakewood ICE, THE RINKS – Westminster ICE and THE RINKS –Yorba Linda ICE), as well as three inline facilities (THE RINKS – Huntington Beach Inline, THE RINKS – Irvine Inline and THE RINKS – Corona Inline).
