DUCKS OPEN 20TH ANNIVERSARY SEASON ON ROAD AT COLORADO: The Anaheim Ducks open their 20th Anniversary season against the Colorado Avalanche Wednesday night at Pepsi Center (6:45 p.m. PDT, PRIME TICKET/AM 830)...the Ducks are seven days shy of the 20th anniversary of their inaugural game on Oct. 8, 1993 vs. the Detroit Red Wings, a 7-2 loss before a sellout crowd of 17,320 at the then-Arrowhead Pond of Anaheim...five days later, the club earned its first ever victory with a 4-3 win over Edmonton on Oct. 13, 1993 in Anaheim...the Ducks own an all-time record of 668-617-207 (1,553 points, .517%) in 1,492 games since their NHL debut in 1993-94...over the last seven seasons, the Ducks have posted a regular-season record of 330-217-75 (.591%)...following Wednesday’s opener, the Ducks will travel to Minnesota to take on the Wild at Xcel Energy Center on Saturday, Oct. 5 (5 p.m. PDT)...the road trip concludes on Sunday, Oct. 6 in Winnipeg (5 p.m.)...Anaheim will open its 20th Anniversary home schedule on Thursday, Oct. 10 against the New York Rangers (7 p.m. PDT).
ONE FINAL YEAR: Teemu Selanne opens his final NHL season in 2013-14 season as the league's oldest active player and the oldest to ever compete in a Ducks uniform at 43 years and 92 days...Selanne enters the season ranked 11th among all-time leaders in goals (6 behind Jagr), 40th in all-time assists (6 behind Federko), 15th in all-time scoring (37 behind Mikita), third in all-time PPG (14 behind Brett Hull) and sixth in all-time GWG (2 behind Brendan Shanahan)...he is set to begin his 22nd NHL season and 15th in an Anaheim uniform...Selanne is the franchise's all-time leader in scoring (961), goals (448), assists (513), games (902), plus/minus (+112), PPG (112), PPP (402), GWG (74), shots (2,853) and overtime goals (6).
DUCKS-AVALANCHE: Anaheim and Colorado open a two-game season series Wednesday at Pepsi Center...with the newly realigned divisions, these two teams will meet again only one other time in 2013-14: the club's season finale on Apr. 13 at Honda Center...this marks only the second time in franchise history that the Ducks will open and close the season against the same opponent...the first instance was in 1995-96 when the Ducks opened in Winnipeg on Oct. 9, 1995 and concluded against the Jets in Anaheim on Apr. 14, 1996...Wednesday's game marks the first time Anaheim has opened the year against Colorado, leaving only Calgary, Nashville and Phoenix as the lone Western Conference opponents the club has not faced to begin a season...the Ducks are 32-29-12 all-time vs. the Avalanche, including a 14-15-7 road mark...Anaheim was 2-1-0 against Colorado last season, highlighted by a 3-0 shutout on Feb. 6, 2013 at Pepsi Center...Teemu Selanne leads Anaheim skaters in career scoring vs. Colorado, earning 36-40=76 points in 67 games.
A LOOK BACK AT 2013-14: The Ducks won their second Pacific Division title in 2012-13 with a 30-12-6 record for 66 points, marking their best winning percentage in club history (.688 over 2007’s .671)…the 2012-13 Ducks also had the best points percentage in club history on the road with a 14-5-5 (.688) mark, also ahead of the 2007 team (.598)…the Ducks finished second in the Western Conference and third overall in the NHL, behind only Chicago and Pittsburgh…the club’s third-place finish in the overall league standings was the highest in club history...Anaheim completed its 2012-13 road schedule with a 14-5-5 record (33 points), the club's best road win percentage in club history (.688)...the Ducks had three players in the top 10 in plus/minus on the road, including Andrew Cogliano (+16, tied for third), Sheldon Souray (+13, tied for seventh) and Daniel Winnik (+12, tied for ninth)…Anaheim ranked third in the NHL in points earned on the road (Chicago, 38 and Pittsburgh, 36).
