'Throwback Night' Set for This Sunday at Honda Center

Ducks Players to Wear Retro Jerseys for Contest vs. Senators; Majority of Inaugural 1993-94 Mighty Ducks Roster to Attend Weekend of Celebration

Wednesday, 10.09.2013 / 10:50 PM

The Ducks will celebrate “Throwback Night” this Sunday vs. Ottawa (5 p.m.), commemorating the club’s 20th anniversary season. Fourteen players from the original 1993 Mighty Ducks squad will be on hand and sign autographs for fans during both intermissions this Sunday (details will be at AnaheimDucks.com). The franchise is celebrating 20 years of Ducks hockey all season long and Oct. 13 will mark the 20th anniversary of the first Ducks win. The club beat Edmonton by a score of 4-3 behind 28 saves by Ron Tugnutt and a game-winning goal by Bill Houlder.

The 2013-14 squad will compete in Mighty Ducks retro jerseys (purple) for the contest against the Senators. A variety of retro merchandise, including throwback jerseys, will be available at the brand-new Anaheim Ducks Team Store Powered by Reebok. Fans attending “Throwback Night” can anticipate an all-1990s experience. A special “93 Cent Menu” will be available, featuring $0.93 popcorn, a $0.93 fountain soda and a $0.93 Mighty Ducks cupcake. Video elements will include look-backs at original Mighty Ducks opening videos and footage from the club’s inaugural game on Oct. 8, 1993 vs. Detroit at the then-Arrowhead Pond of Anaheim. The original 1993-94 Mighty Ducks of Anaheim will take center ice for a pre-game ceremony and honorary puck drop. Fans can also look forward to early 1990s music, as well as early 1990s graphics and video elements as part of in-arena entertainment.

In advance of “Throwback Night,” the original Mighty Ducks will attend events throughout the weekend, including a golf outing and group dinner. In addition, the group will attend the “Cheers to ’93” charity event on Friday evening (Oct. 11). Hosted at Provisions Market in Old Towne Orange, all proceeds from “Cheers to ’93” will benefit the Anaheim Ducks Foundation. Guests will have the opportunity to bid on a selection of unique Anaheim Ducks and Mighty Ducks memorabilia items, and taste artfully paired craft brews, eats and wine while mingling with members of the inaugural Mighty Ducks squad. A very limited number of tickets are still available for “Cheers to ’93” and can be purchased by visiting AnaheimDucks.com/cheersto93.
