Postgame Quotes – Jan. 25, 2014
On the ice
The ice was perfect. I treated it just like any other game. The puck was gliding nicely and everything felt good. I think they did an awesome job with it.
On jumping out to an early lead
In a game like this, when there’s so much build up to it, when you come out and get two early goals, it’s beneficial. It took the excitement out of the LA fans and we drowned them out a bit. You have to tip your cap to that team. They played really hard and they threw everything at us. If it wasn’t for Hillsy [Jonas Hiller], we wouldn’t be here today.
On being a part of an outdoor game
These games are so much fun to be a part of, but they’re not easy to get ready for. But when you win, it’s an amazing experience. Every couple years would be fun to be a part of it. I don’t know how much they can do it better here. It was just a fantastic experience for fans, media and the players. When you come up with two points, you can smile after the game. It’s great.
On the ice
I have nothing but good things to say. It was a bit slow in the first period, but I think that was more of just the players not knowing how to play on it. We figured it out in the second and third, and I don’t think it affected the outcome of the game.
On how he remained focused during the game
I tried not to look up. I think all of us were focused on the task at hand, but after the game, when the fireworks exploded, that was really cool. I’m glad we could salute the crowd and soak it all in for one more minute. That was something I’ll never forget.
On the game
It was awesome. When we got out there and saw the people and the support of Southern California, it was unbelievable. The whole week has been a blast.
On what he’ll remember most about this event
The memorable thing was having my kids on the ice yesterday and being out there with my family.
On tonight’s game
This was so much fun. There wasn’t one thing to say negative about this. It was unbelievable. We should do it in Anaheim, or San Jose, or anywhere.
On the atmosphere
We tried to remind each other we still had a game. This wasn’t the All-Star Game. But a lot of guys got to meet Gene Simmons yesterday after practice. Our families were here, too, so it was a like a zoo here.
Head coach Bruce Boudreau
On the atmosphere
I thought the energy was fabulous. I can't even talk now because players couldn't hear me five feet from me when you're trying to tell them who is up or screaming on the ice. So I thought the energy stayed pretty well near the end. I think then they sort of settled down a little bit.
On what he'll remember from tonight's game
Well, we won. I mean, I’ll remember the atmosphere, you know, 54,000 people, and where we were, you just look pretty well at everybody where the main portion of the crowd and when people say Californians are laid back, I thought they were pretty into it tonight
