The Ducks will open their preseason with a home battle with Pacific Division rival Phoenix tonight at Honda Center.
It's the first true game action for the Ducks, who went through a weekend of intrasquad action on the opening days of training camp at THE RINKS - Anaheim ICE.
Last night the Coyotes opened their preseason with two split-squad games, one at home and one in LA. The Coyotes won both games -- 4-2 at Jobing.com in Glendale and 5-1 at Staples Center in LA.
Veteran defenseman Keith Yandle had a shorthanded goal and two assists in the home victory, while Brandon Yip had two goals and an assist in LA.
Coyotes defenseman Rostislav Klesla was taken off the ice on a stretcher after being hit by Kings forward Jordan Nolan at 9:44 the first period in the game in Glendale. Klesla waved to the crowd as he was wheeled of the ice, and Coyotes coach Dave Tippett said Klesla was alert but taken to a nearby hospital.
Last year, as the Ducks won the Pacific Division for the second time in franchise history, the Coyotes finished fourth in the conference and 10th in the Western Conference.
