The Ducks announced today that they have recalled left wing Drew Miller from the Portland Pirates, Anaheim’s primary development affiliate in the American Hockey League (AHL).

Miller, 23 (2/17/84), scored 5-5=10 points with a +4 rating and two penalty minutes (PIM) in seven games with the Pirates this season. Earlier today, Miller was named the Rbk/AHL Player of the Week for Jan. 7-13 after recording 5-3=8 points with a +4 rating in four games. He collected his first career hat trick on Jan. 9 at Bridgeport to spark a four-game point streak that helped Portland to a 4-0-0-0 record last week. 

Selected in the sixth round (186th overall) of the 2003 NHL Entry Draft, Miller has scored 2-3=5 points with six PIM in 25 games with the Ducks this season. Miller, who registered his first career NHL goal on Oct. 17 vs. Nashville, has an even plus/minus rating while averaging 11:17 time on ice (TOI).

Miller made his professional hockey debut in 2006-07 with Portland, finishing tied for first on the Pirates in rookie scoring and tied for third in overall scoring (16-20=36). He played in three games for Anaheim during the 2007 playoffs, including Games One and Two of the Stanley Cup Final vs. Ottawa.

The 6-2, 176-pound winger played at Michigan State for three seasons (2003-06), where he served as captain of the Spartans in 2005-06 and led the club in scoring with 18-25=43 points in 44 games. Miller was named Michigan State’s Most Valuable Player and was honored as the Central Collegiate Hockey Association’s Best Defensive Forward in 2006.
