In 25 games with the Columbus in 2007-08, Joakim Lindstrom collected three goals, four assists and seven points. The 24-year-old left wing was acquired by the Ducks on Tuesday for a conditional draft pick.

The Ducks announced today that they have acquired left wing Joakim Lindstrom from the Columbus Blue Jackets in exchange for a conditional pick in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft.

Lindstrom, 24 (12/5/83), appeared in 25 games with Columbus last season, scoring 3 goals and 4 assists with an even plus/minus rating and 14 penalty minutes (PIM). Lindstrom set NHL career highs in all offensive categories in 2007-08, including goals, assists, points, power play goals (2), game-winning goals (1) and shots (25). He spent the rest of the season with Syracuse, the Blue Jackets’ primary development affiliate in the American Hockey League (AHL). Lindstrom scored 25-35=60 points with 68 PIM in 49 games with Syracuse, leading the team in points and power play goals (13) while tying for the lead in goals. Lindstrom also appeared in 13 Calder Cup Playoff games with the Crunch, collecting 4-3=7 points with six PIM.

Originally selected by Columbus in the second round of the 2002 NHL Entry Draft, Lindstrom has appeared in 37 career NHL games with the Blue Jackets, scoring 4 goals and 4 assists with 18 PIM.

A native of Skelleftea, Sweden, Lindstrom registered 12 goals and 13 assists with 60 PIM in 133 career games with MoDo in the Swedish Elite League from 2000-05. In four seasons with Syracuse, he collected 65 goals 94 assists with a +2 rating and 154 PIM in 176 career AHL games.

Vice President of Hockey Operations Bob Murray spoke to reporters via conference call on Tuesday afternoon. Following is a transcript:

On acquiring Joakim Lindstrom,
He’s a Swedish guy that we’ve been watching for years. He got drafted by Columbus and is the type of player that needs a new opportunity. He was by buried there in Columbus behind a bunch of decent wingers. He’s a skilled player. We’ll see. He’ll get an opportunity with us. We’re trying to upgrade our depth of skilled players and wingers throughout the organization. This is just one of the guys in that group that we’re trying to improve upon.

On the possibility of Lindstrom challenging for a spot with the Ducks,
Considering our situation at the moment, yes he could. We’re not that deep right now. There are going to guys competing for a top six forward spot at the moment with our team.

On Lindstrom getting a chance among the top six forwards,
I think so. I think that’s his role. That’s what I look at him as. Maybe when Randy (Carlyle) gets him he’ll find another spot for him. I think he’s a top six type of guy. I don’t see him as a checker or an energy guy. I think he’s a skilled player. That’s really where I’m thinking he’ll get the chance with us anyway.

On if Lindstrom is a scorer or a playmaker,
He’s got a little bit of both. He’s very talented with the puck. He’s skilled. He sees the ice. It’s time he moves on from the American Hockey League. It’s either play in the NHL or eventually if he can’t play there, he’ll have to go back to Sweden. It’s time for him to get a look here.

On the conditions of the draft pick being sent to Columbus as part of the deal,
Depending on how many games he plays in the National Hockey League with us, it could be a fourth or a seventh round pick.
