Ducks forward Todd Marchant will be out two weeks with a fractured finger on his left hand. Doctors placed a pin in the hand yesterday, and had hoped he would be able to play with it. But it was later determined he would have to delay his return to the ice.

“They were supposed to put in a small, flexible, disposable pin — a minor procedure,” Marchant said Tuesday. “Then they found out that wouldn’t hold the bone in place, so they had to do something more extensive.”

The injury took place in a game at Honda Center against Los Angeles on Jan. 6. While Marchant tried to corral a puck, a Kings player got his stick on Marchant's little finger on his left hand.

"I honestly didn’t think much of it but then I came back to the bench and my finger was bent in a way it wasn’t supposed to. I came in and got it x-rayed. They knew it was fractured. I played the next game, but it was too painful."   

In 42 games played this season, Marchant has two goals, six assists and eight points. The 35-year-old also recently became the 31st U.S.-born player to appear in his 1,000th NHL game on Dec. 22 at Vancouver. But while he has been injured in the past, Marchant has never had to deal with a broken bone untl now.

“This is kind of new territory for me,” Marchant said.
