Mighty Ducks Sign Jonathan Hedstrom
"We expect Jonathan to be an important part of our team this year and make an impact," said Executive Vice President/General Manager Brian Burke. "After two productive seasons overseas we are happy to have him back in Anaheim."
The 5-11, 201-pound Hedstrom spent the 2004-05 season with Timra IK of the Swedish Elite League (SEL), recording 14-21=35 points with 92 penalty minutes (PIM) in 46 games. He finished fourth on the club in scoring. In seven playoff games, Hedstrom recorded 3-5=8 points, finishing first in assists and tied for first in points. At the 2005 World Championships, he finished tied for third in scoring with 3-4=7 points in nine contests.
In 2003-04, Hedstrom played for Djurgardens IF Stockholm of the SEL, scoring 12-22=34 points with 94 PIM in 48 games. He recorded 0-2=2 points in three playoff games.
The Skelleftea, Sweden spent the majority of the 2002-03 season with Cincinnati in the American Hockey League, collecting 14-21=35 points with 62 PIM in 50 games. Hedstrom also appeared in four games for Anaheim, making is NHL debut Dec. 3 at Detroit.
Hedstrom, 27 (12/27/77), originally drafted by Toronto in the ninth round (221st overall) of the 1997 NHL Entry Draft, was acquired by Anaheim from Toronto in exchange for sixth and seventh round draft picks in the 2000 NHL Entry Draft on June 25, 2000.
