Mighty Ducks Sign 2004 Second-Round Pick Jordan Smith
“Jordan Smith is a hard-nosed defenseman, who is ready to make the step into professional hockey,” said Executive Vice President/General Manager Brian Burke. “With his character and work ethic, we expect big things from him in the future.”
Smith, a Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario native, played for his hometown team in the Ontario Hockey League in 2004-2005. He recorded 5-27=32 points with 126 PIM in 64 games, adding 1-4=5 points in 7 postseason games. He led team defensemen in scoring during the regular season, earning a spot as an OHL Second-Team All-Star for his efforts.
He increased his point production in each of his four OHL seasons and served as an alternate captain for Sault Ste. Marie in 2004-2005. Over his four years in the OHL, Smith earned 13-56=68 points in 211 career regular season games.
The 6-1, 215-pound Smith was drafted by the Mighty Ducks in the second round (39th overall) of the 2004 NHL Entry Draft.
