Ducks Win Wild West Shootout With the Kings
Pavol Demitra scored twice for the Kings (4-3-1), who despite the loss completed their preseason schedule with a winning record for the 16th straight year - a streak that was interrupted by last season's lockout. Eric Belanger and Tom Kostopoulos also scored for Los Angeles.
Andy McDonald had a third-period goal for the Ducks.
Demitra scored against Jean-Sebastien Giguere with 8 seconds left on a two-man advantage, trimming Anaheim's lead to 3-2 at 10:53 of the second period. Belanger tied it less than 5 minutes later on another power play while Ryan Getzlaf was serving a 4-minute penalty for high-sticking. But the Ducks regained the lead for good when Fedorov beat rookie goaltender Jason LaBarbera on a one-timer from 25 feet at 16:39 of the second.
Fedorov scored his first goal 2 minutes into the second period on a rebound of Fedoruk's shot, giving the Ducks a 2-1 lead. Lupul increased the lead with a short backhander less than 5 minutes later.
Lupul opened the scoring with a short-handed goal at 2:23 of the first period. Kostopoulos tied it at 9:20 of the period on a power play.
Giguere made 16 saves and LaBarbera stopped 33 shots.
