Mighty Ducks Name Three-Time Stanley Cup Champion Scott Niedermayer Team Captain
The Mighty Ducks of Anaheim announced today that the National Hockey League (NHL) club has named three-time Stanley Cup Champion Scott Niedermayer team captain. Sergei Fedorov, also a three-time Stanley Cup winner, and Rob Niedermayer have been named alternate captains for the 2005-2006 season. The club also announced that Keith Carney will be an alternate captain in the event one of the previous three players is not in the lineup.

“Scott Niedermayer will be a great leader for us, bringing experience, success and work ethic to our team,” said Head Coach Randy Carlyle. “We also feel we have a large group of other veteran leaders on the club, and expect a collaborative effort from all of them to push this team in the right direction.”

Scott Niedermayer, 32 (8/31/73), was the New Jersey Devils team captain for the final half of the 2003-2004 NHL season, following an injury to Scott Stevens (Niedermayer was previously alternate captain). Niedermayer has played in 892 regular season games, 146 post season contests and won the Norris Trophy in 2004 (top NHL defenseman).

“It’s an honor to be named captain of this team, it’s something I take seriously and with a great deal of pride,” said Scott Niedermayer.

Fedorov, 35 (12/13/05), also wore the “A” in 2003-2004 for the Mighty Ducks. In addition to his three Stanley Cup Championships, he won the Hart Trophy (regular season MVP) in 1994, and made six All-Star appearances (1992, 1994, 1996, 2001-2003). He has played in 988 regular season games and 162 playoff contests.

Rob Niedermayer, 30 (12/28/74), has appeared in 696 NHL regular season games and 52 playoff contests. He joined the Ducks during the 2002-2003 season and was instrumental in leading the club to the 2003 Stanley Cup Finals, appearing in all 21 playoff games that season.
