JS Giguere stopped 25 shots and Joffrey Lupul, Andy McDonald, Keith Carney and Teemu Selanne each scored as the Mighty Ducks beat the Calgary Flames 4-1 on Wednesday night at the Arrowhead Pond.

The win for Anaheim was their third straight at home this season.

“We stuck to the game plan today and had three power play goals, which was great for our team. I’m really pleased with the result,” said Giguere

Joffrey Lupul (5, Selanne, Sykora) would start the scoring for the Ducks with 1:19 to play in the first period when he put a power play goal by Flames goaltender Miikka Kiprusoff to give Anaheim a 1-0 lead.

Andy McDonald (3, DiPenta, Fedoruk) would give the Ducks a 2-0 lead at 15:55 of the second period by putting the rebound of a Joe DiPenta shot past Kiprusoff.

Flames captain Jarome Iginla (3, Amonte, Langkow) would cut the Ducks lead in half to begin the third period with a power play goal.  The Mighty Ducks have allowed a power play goal in each of their first 10 games of the season.

The Ducks power play, however, was too much for the Flames late in the third period.

“It could have gone either way, but they found a way to win it,” said Iginla.

“That’s hockey. It doesn’t make us feel any better or think that we’re right there. The last couple of minutes they broke it open, but it was pretty much a one-goal game and they found a way to win it.”

After several key saves by Giguere late in the period, Carney (2, Lupul, R. Niedermayer) would put the Ducks up 3-1 on the power play with 2:01 remaining for his second goal of the season.

“It was more of a complete game for our hockey club and it was a character builder for us considering the number of bodies we have out of our lineup,” said Ducks head coach Randy Carlyle.

“People stepped to the forefront and did the job for us. Those are the type of wins you really feel good about yourself as a team. We went out and earned it.”

Selanne (6, Vishnevski, Pahlsson) would add a power play marker with 4.3 seconds to play in the game for his team-leading sixth goal of the season to seal the 4-1 victory for the Ducks.

“I think we just played a hard 60 minutes. We didn’t really give them much. We played solidly, good power play, good penalty killing,” said Selanne.

The Mighty Ducks will continue this four-game homestand on Friday night against the St. Louis Blues at 7:30 PM.
