Ducks Do Their Part On This Sunday's Episode of ABC'S Extreme Makeover: Home Edition
The Mighty Ducks of Anaheim join the cast of ABC’s hit television series Extreme Makeover: Home Edition for two back-to-back one-hour episodes airing across the country on Sunday, November 27 beginning at 7:00 p.m EST/PST. The shows feature the Lewis Family and the entire community of El Segundo, CA. It tells the story of rebuilding the home of police officer Bruce Lewis, his cancer stricken wife, Paulita, and their children.
“This show has done so many great things for people, I couldn’t wait to be a part of it,” said Mighty Ducks Captain Scott Niedermayer. “This family’s story is truly inspirational and the project’s outcome is an inspiration for all.”
The Mighty Ducks players, as well as the club’s new customized Duck Truck, took part in the filming near the Lewis home in El Segundo. The show takes you through the story of the long-time Southern California residents over the past year.
Taking advantage of low interest rates, the Lewis family took out a loan to improve and expand their small home. Progress was slow, when heavy winter rains came, damaging and eventually caving in the roof. All of the family’s furniture and personal belongings were destroyed.
The contractor soon abandoned the project and left town with $40,000 of the Lewis’ money. Bruce, Paulita, Erin and Hunter were left stranded at Bruce’s mother’s apartment - all four of them living in one tiny bedroom.
Bruce is a well-known, respected police officer in El Segundo, and the community was eager to help this man and his family. Struggling to rebuild the house, the family received the most horrific news - Paulita had cancer after discovering a lump in her neck.
In order to give Paulita the greatest chance at recovery, Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, the Mighty Ducks, local builder Taylor Woodrow and standup comedian Robert Schimme step in to help give the family peace of mind that only a home can provide.
