ANAHEIM, Calif. – The Mighty Ducks of Anaheim announced today that the National Hockey League (NHL) club has acquired defenseman Maxim Kondratiev from the New York Rangers in exchange for Petr Sykora and a fourth round pick in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft.

Kondratiev, 22 (1/20/83), has played in 29 games with the New York Rangers this season, scoring 1-3=4 points with 22 penalty minutes (PIM). In 2003-04, Kondratiev played seven games with the Toronto Maple Leafs. On March 3, 2004, he was traded to the New York Rangers by Toronto with Jarkko Immonen, Toronto's first-round draft pick in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft and their second-round pick in 2005 in exchange for Brian Leetch and a conditional draft choice.

Kondratiev split the 2004-05 season between Hartford (AHL) and Lada Togliatti of the Russian Elite League. With Lada Togliatti, he appeared in 32 games, collecting 2-4=6 points and 65 PIM finishing the season ranked third on the team in PIM and third among team defensemen in assists.

Toronto's seventh choice (sixth round, 168th overall) of the 2001 NHL Entry Draft, Kondratiev will report to the Portland Pirates of the American Hockey League immediately.

Sykora, 29 (11/19/76), has scored 7-13=20 points in 34 games this season. In 197 games with the Ducks over three seasons, the Plzen, Czech Republic native scored 64-67=131 points with 86 penalty minutes.
