ANAHEIM, CA. – Mighty Ducks of Anaheim television analyst Brian Hayward was named to the broadcast team of NBC Universal today for the 2006 Torino Olympic Winter Games. Hayward joins Mike Emrick, Kenny Albert, Dave Strader, John Davidson, Peter McNab, Pierre McGuire and Joe Micheletti as broadcasters of the men’s tournament.

Hayward will also work as analyst for NBC’s broadcasts of NHL regular season hockey, beginning with Saturday’s match-up between Colorado and Philadelphia at Wachovia Center.

The original television analyst of the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim, Brian Hayward is currently serving in his 13th season with the club. In addition to his work in Anaheim, Hayward has previously called games for ABC, ESPN, ESPN2 and CBC.

He was selected to provide color commentary for the 2004 World Cup of Hockey, teaming with Dave Strader for ESPN’s telecasts of the event. In 1998, he served as a roving reporter during the Stanley Cup Finals for ESPN, where he had the distinction of interviewing President Bill Clinton during a game in Washington.

After earning All-America honors as a goaltender at Cornell in 1982, Hayward went on to play in the NHL with the Winnipeg Jets, Montreal Canadiens, Minnesota North Stars and San Jose Sharks. In 1984-85, Hayward established a franchise record by winning 33 games with the Jets.

All 54 games of both the men's and women's hockey tournaments will be seen live on the networks of NBC Universal (NBC, USA, MSNBC, CNBC, NBC HD and Universal HD). The full slate of games will mark the first time in U.S. television history that the entire Olympic women's tournament will be televised.

All Team USA hockey games and the gold medal games, both men's and women's, will be broadcast commercial-free and in their entirety. The women's gold medal game will air live on President's Day, Monday, Feb. 20, on NBC. The men's gold medal game will air live on the final day of Olympic competition, Sunday, Feb. 26, on NBC.

The Networks of NBC Universal will provide 416 total hours of coverage, an increase over the 375.5 hours of coverage on NBC, CNBC and MSNBC from Salt Lake, the previous record for a Winter Games.
