ANAHEIM, Calif. - Chris Kunitz scored 29 seconds into the first period and JS Giguere stopped all 30 shots he faced to give the Ducks a 1-0 victory over the Florida Panthers on Saturday night at the Arrowhead Pond.

The win marked the fifth-straight game that the Ducks have earned at least one point in the standings and improved their home record to 15-6-4.

“You never think that a goal scored in the first minute is going to carry you through the hockey game,” said Ducks head coach Randy Carlyle.  “But we were fortunate to get one early and it turned out to be the game-winner.”

Coming off his game-winning shootout goal in Ottawa on Thursday night, Kunitz (10, Salei, Selanne) jammed home a rebound for his 10th goal of the season.

“We were just trying to get pressure on them and by chance the puck bounced my way and went in the net,” said Kunitz.  “We tried to build on it early and Giguere got us the win.”

After Kunitz’s early marker it was in fact Giguere and fellow Montreal native Roberto Luongo who dominated the contest stopping 30 shots each and keeping the game scoreless for the remaining 59:31.

“A shutout is a team thing - it’s not a goalie thing,” said Giguere.  “Everybody needs to contribute to get a shutout. It’s special, but it’s not the main goal. Our main goal is to get the two points.”

The Ducks will try to earn their first two points of the season at Staples Center when Anaheim battles So Cal rival Los Angeles on Monday night before returning to the Arrowhead Pond to entertain the Edmonton Oilers in a key Western Conference match-up on Wednesday at 7:00 PM.
