Professional Skateboarder Mike Vallely Teams Up With Ducks
ANAHEIM, Calif. – The Mighty Ducks announced today that the club has partnered with professional skateboarder Mike Vallely to introduce skateboard hockey at its Fun Sunday events, beginning this Sunday, February 12. Mighty Ducks Fun Sundays take place on the North side of the Arrowhead Pond prior to every Sunday home game and include a live DJ, box hockey tournaments, street hockey, slap shot cage, an inflatable kid’s slide, face painting, sign making and air hockey.

“With skateboarding being one of the most popular sports among youth in Southern California, it is a demographic that we want to capture,” said Mighty Ducks Vice President of Sales & Marketing Steve Obert. “By teaming with pro skateboarder Mike Vallely it allows us to introduce another form of hockey that kids in the Orange County community can participate in.  As both sports continue grow, we hope that the integration of hockey and skateboarding will provide unique opportunities for youths to enjoy both sports.”

Mighty Ducks and Mike Vallely fans are invited to come out to the parking lot on the North side of the Arrowhead Pond and participate in skateboard hockey clinics beginning two hours prior to the opening faceoff of each Sunday contest at the Arrowhead Pond.  All equipment needed to play, including skateboards, helmets, and sticks will be provided free of charge.

"In my mind hockey is the original action sport,” said Mike Vallely. “Before the fame of action sports, hockey players were generally regarded as the toughest and craziest athletes on the planet. I think they still are. Of all the traditional and action sports hockey, and skateboarding are the only ones that are truly compatible. Skateboard hockey is really the only team sport that you can play on a skateboard. I've been playing skateboard hockey since 1990 and think it's a great way to combine two passions."

Mike Vallely has a long and decorated resume in the sport of skateboarding. He began skateboarding in the autumn of 1984 and was sponsored only two years later in the summer of 1986 by Powell Peralta. That same summer he was the NSA National Amateur Streetstyle Champion and appeared on the cover of Thrasher Magazine. In 1995 Mike won the first annual Skatepark Of Tampa Pro Street Contest and competed in the first ever X-Games. In 1997, he traveled to China to do the very first professional skateboard demonstrations in that country and a year later released his first  signature skateboard shoe. In the summer of 2001, Mike joined Tony Hawk on his Gigantic Skatepark Tour and would go on to be featured on many of Hawk’s tours and video games, including Pro Skater, Underground and American Wasteland.
