ANAHEIM, Calif. – The Mighty Ducks of Anaheim announced today that the National Hockey League (NHL) club has reassigned right wing Tyler Wright to the Portland Pirates, Anaheim’s American Hockey League affiliate (AHL).

Following his assignment, Wright was given the option of reporting to Portland, or returning to his home in Columbus to contemplate his future (on a paid basis). Wright has elected to return to Ohio and will consider his career options.

“Tyler Wright is a class act who has had a long and successful NHL career, and we support his decision,” said Executive Vice President and General Manager Brian Burke.

Wright, 32 (4/6/73), has played 43 games with Anaheim and Columbus this season, scoring 2-6=8 points with 51 penalty minutes. He played in 25 games with Anaheim, scoring 2-2=4 points with 31 penalty minutes (PIM).

The 6-0, 190-pound forward was selected by Edmonton in the first round (12th overall) of the 1991 NHL Entry Draft. Wright was a member of the Columbus Blue Jackets inaugural team, having been claimed by the club from Pittsburgh in the 2000 Expansion Draft.

The Kamsack, Saskatchewan native was acquired from Columbus with Francois Beauchemin on Nov. 15, 2005 for Sergei Fedorov and a fifth-round draft pick in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft. Wright has appeared in 613 career NHL games, collecting 79-70=149 points with 854 penalty minutes.
