ANAHEIM, Calif. – The Mighty Ducks of Anaheim of the National Hockey League (NHL) today announced that the club has agreed to a three-year entry level contract with right wing Bobby Ryan. Per club policy, no financial terms of the deals were disclosed.

“Bobby Ryan is an exciting player that we are happy to officially add to our young group of skilled forwards,” said Executive Vice President and General Manager Brian Burke. “He has a rare combination of size and skill and we look forward to his continued development.”

A first-round pick (second overall) in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft, Ryan leads Owen Sound of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) with 30-62=92 points in 55 games. The 18-year-old (3/17/87) forward ranks tied for eighth in assists and ninth in points in the OHL, and was selected to represent the Western Conference in the 2006 OHL All-Star Game. Additionally, he appeared in seven games for Team USA at the 2006 IIHF World Junior Tournament, earning 3-4=7 points in seven tournament games.

Ryan spent the previous two seasons with Owen Sound of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL). In 2004-2005, the 6-2, 213-pounder finished second on Owen Sound in scoring with 37-52=89 points, a plus-minus rating of +30 and 51 penalty minutes (PIM) in 62 games. Ryan finished tied for fifth in goals, sixth in points and tied for fourth in shorthanded goals (4) in the OHL.

The Camden, New Jersey, native’s selection at second overall was the highest the Mighty Ducks had drafted since 1994 (Oleg Tverdovsky, also second overall). Ryan lived in El Segundo for four years (1999-2003) and played amateur hockey for the Junior Kings.
