2006 Ducks Golf Classic
PrintApproximately $75,000 was raised at the Golf Classic, which benefits Mighty Ducks Care. A fund of the McCormick Tribune Foundation, Mighty Ducks Care is the primary recipient of charitable contributions raised by the Ducks. The funds raised at the Golf Classic will be matched by the McCormick Tribune Foundation, making well over $100,000 available for Mighty Ducks Care to grant to local nonprofit organizations.
Registration for the Golf Classic began at 8:30 a.m., followed by a shotgun start at 10 a.m. Foursomes enjoyed Ducks players, coaches and broadcasters as the “fifth” player in their groups and the course featured various competitions such as a putting contest, longest drive contest, accurate drive contest, closest to the pin contest and a hockey slapshot contest where contestants joined the Ducks players to see if they could drive a golf ball into a hockey net by taking a slapshot with a hockey stick.
Other highlights on the course included the Hooters Girls who gave coupons for complimentary Hooters wings, the Miller Lite Girls who held a Miller Lite Taste Test Challenge, and Burkie’s Watering Hole where General Manager Brian Burke spent the afternoon visiting with the golfers and joining the participating foursomes for a photo.
Following the round of golf, participants enjoyed cocktails and a silent auction. During the buffet dinner, Ducks television broadcasters, John Ahlers and Brian Hayward auctioned off fabulous Ducks experiences, including a trip for two on a team road trip and GM for a Day, and also presented awards to the top three scores.
Mighty Ducks Captain Scott Niedermayer was a part of the winning foursome of the tournament which shot 8 under par to win this season’s Mighty Ducks Golf Classic.
Next season’s Golf Classic will be held during training camp in the fall of 2006.
