Ducks 6, Predators 3

ANAHEIM, Calif. - Teemu Selanne and Andy McDonald each tallied twice and rookie Ryan Getzlaf picked up a four helpers to lead the Ducks over the Nashville Predators 6-3 on Friday night at the Arrowhead Pond.

The Ducks have now won eight of their last nine games and have moved into sole possession of fifth place in the Western Conference with 83 points.

For the third straight game the Ducks spotted their opponent a lead when Predators leading goal scorer Steve Sullivan (31, Sillinger) broke in alone and beat JS Giguere over his left shoulder.  The goal was Sullivan’s 31st goal of the season at 6:35 of the first period.

Anaheim drew even late in the period when Selanne (30, Getzlaf) got his first of the game, a power play goal at 17:42.  Selanne walked in from the left half-board and fired a wrist shot past Predator netminder Tomas Vokoun.

Chris Kunitz (15, Perry, Getzlaf) scored on the power play to give the Ducks a 2-1 lead to open the second period at 1:48.  Corey Perry slipped a backhand pass from the side of the net to Kunitz who shot the puck into the open net for his 15th of the season.

Selanne (31, Fedoruk) tallied his second goal of the game at 12:14 and Corey Perry (10, Getzlaf, Kunitz) scored his tenth on the season at 12:39 of the second period to break the game open for the Ducks with a 4-1 lead.

McDonald (27, Fedoruk, Selanne) capped a four-goal second period for the Ducks with his 27th goal of the year at 18:08 of the second period to give the Ducks a 5-1 lead.

The Preds' Adam Hall (13, Zidlicky, Sullivan) scored a power play goal at 8:39 of the third period to cut the Anaheim lead to 5-2.

McDonald scored his second of the game on the power play at 16:22 of the third period to give the Ducks a 6-2 lead.

Jordan Tootoo (4, Witt, Hamhuis) scored a late goal for Nashville at 19:28 of the third to get one more back for the Preds to make it 6-3.

The Ducks face the Phoenix Coyotes tomorrow night at Glendale Arena.

NOTES: The Ducks have won five straight games, their longest winning streak of the season.  The Ducks are also 8-1-0 in their last nine, 11-2-1 in their last 14, and 15-4-2 last 21.  Since Thanksgiving (Nov. 24), the Ducks are 28-10-8 overall.  The Ducks are 16-4-3 in their last 23 home games… Ryan Getzlaf’s four assists set a rookie club record for assists in a game.  Getzlaf has 1-5=6 points in the last two games…This is Selanne’s eighth 30-goal season of his career, and the first since 2000-2001.
