Game Three: Calgary 5, Anaheim 2
ANAHEIM, Calif. – Kristian Huselius had a goal and two assists and Miikka Kiprusoff stopped 27 shots to lead the Calgary Flames over the Ducks 5-2 in the third game of the Western Conference quarterfinals on Tuesday night at the Arrowhead Pond.

Calgary leads the series 2-1 with game four to be played Thursday night in Anaheim.

“We just didn’t play well enough to win,” said Ducks captain Scott Niedermayer. “They came out and battled hard the whole game. They got what they deserved and we got what we deserved.”

Daymond Langkow (1, Ference, Huselius) got things going for the Flames on the power play at 14:01 of the first period.

The Flames were three-for-seven on the power play in a game that had a combined 20 minor penalties called.

“It’s been a physical series,” said Calgary head coach Darryl Sutter.  “If they’re going to continue to call this many penalties, it’s going to put a lot of pressure on the goaltenders in every series.”

The Ducks answered with a power play goal of their own at 17:26 of the first when Francois Beauchemin (1, S. Niedermayer, Perry) fired a slap shot past Kiprusoff to tie the game.

Huselius (2, Iginla, Regehr) regained the lead for Calgary at 1:25 of the second period with his second goal of the series.

“You need to get a few good bounces, but I thought [Huselius] was really controlling it early,” said Flames’ captain Jarome Iginla.  “He ended up with a few big points, got us going out there and got the confidence up.”

Beauchemin (2, Selanne, S. Niedermayer) rifled another slap shot from the point on the power play at 8:16 of the second period for his second goal of the game to tie the contest, 2-2.

Calgary got the would-be game winner at 15:34 of the second period.  The Flames’ Chris Simon chased a dump-in behind the Ducks’ net and fed a pass to Chuck Kobasew (1, Simon) who beat JS Giguere to give Calgary a 3-2 lead.

The Flames got two more goals in the third to build a 5-2 lead.

“We had a little more jump, a little more desperation,” said Iginla.  “I think we had more fun tonight too. This is the playoffs.”

Darren McCarty (2, Huselius, Leopold) beat Giguere on a wraparound at 4:59 of the third and Robyn Regehr (1, Lundmark) scored his first of the series 34 seconds later on the power play to give Calgary a three-goal lead.

“Tonight was a typical game where we got outworked, and that hasn’t happened to our group very often,” said Ducks head coach Randy Carlyle.  “So you have to give the opposition credit. Is it the end of the world? No, they’re up 2-1 in the series."
