Ducks Recall Penner
Penner, 23 (9/28/82), appeared in 19 games this regular season with Anaheim, earning 4-3=7 points with 14 penalty minutes. The 6-4, 245-pound winger recorded his first NHL goal and tied a franchise rookie record for goals in a game with 2-1=3 points on Nov. 30 vs. Phoenix.
With the Pirates, the Winkler, Manitoba native played in 57 games this season, scoring 39-45=84 points with 68 penalty minutes and an AHL leading +41 rating. Despite missing 22 Portland games while with Anaheim, Penner still ranked first on the club in goals and second in points (Ryan Shannon, 27-59=86 points). He finished the 2005-06 season fifth in the AHL in goals, 11th in the AHL in scoring and was named to the AHL second All-Star Team.
In four Calder Cup playoff games this season, Penner has scored 2-3=5 points. The Pirates currently lead their series with Providence 3-1 and are back in action tonight as they host the Bruins at the Cumberland County Civic Center.
