CALGARY – Jarome Iginla scored twice to lead the Calgary Flames over the Ducks 3-2 in game five the Western Conference quarterfinals on Saturday night at the Pengrowth Saddledome.

It was the second consecutive two-goal game for the captain whose Flames took a 3-2 series lead with the win.

The Ducks will now try to force a seventh game on Monday night at 8 p.m. in game six at the Arrowhead Pond of Anaheim (BUY TICKETS).

The Flames struck early with Anaheim on their second power play of the game.  Calgary’s Matthew Lombardi carried the puck shorthanded into the Ducks zone and dished a pass in front of the net to Tony Amonte (1, Lombardi, Hamrlik) who beat a diving JS Giguere.  The goal gave the Flames a 1-0 lead at 5:49 of the first period.

Later in the first with Anaheim’s Sean O’Donnell off for slashing, Iginla (4, Ference, Langkow) got the first of his two goals when the winger tipped an Andrew Ference shot past Giguere.   The power play goal was Iginla’s fourth tally of the playoffs and it came at 16:18 to give the Flames a 2-0 advantage.

After the Flames second goal, O’Donnell tussled with Calgary’s Darren McCarty and both were issued roughing minors.  After their penalties had expired, both players rushed from their respective penalty boxes and engaged in the first fight of the evening.

In the opening minutes of the second period, Iginla (5, Langkow, Huselius) capped the Flames scoring with his second of the night at 1:03 to put Calgary up 3-0.

Ilya Bryzgalov replaced Giguere after the third goal.  The Ducks rookie netminder stopped 19 shots holding Calgary off the board for the remainder of the contest.

Andy McDonald (1, Selanne, Beauchemin) got Anaheim on the scoreboard at 8:19 of the third period.  As he was being hauled down by Calgary defenseman Jordan Leopold, McDonald managed to push the puck past Miikka Kiprusoff for his first goal of the playoffs to cut the Flames lead to 3-1.

Bryzgalov was pulled in favor of the extra skater in the closing minutes of the contest with the Ducks on the power play.  Rob Niedermayer (1, Pahlsson, Beauchemin) took advantage of the 6-4 advantage to get the Ducks to 3-2 at 19:27 of the third period.
