Game Six: Anaheim 2, Calgary 1

ANAHEIM, Calif – Scott Niedermayer scored his second goal of the playoffs at

14:23 of the third period to break a 1-1 tie and lead the Ducks over the Calgary Flames 2-1 in game six of the Western Conference quarterfinals on Monday night at the Arrowhead Pond.

With the victory, the Ducks successfully forced a game seven on Wednesday night at the Pengrowth Saddledome in Calgary.

The entire series has been a heavyweight fight from game to game, period to period and occasionally shift to shift.

To get things going in the contest, Francois Beauchemin and Jarome Iginla squared off in a bout of their own 1:09 into the game.  Beauchemin landed a hard right knocking Iginla to his knees with the first punch.  The Flames’ captain got back and exchanged punches with the rookie defenseman, Beauchemin landing the most.

The Ducks carried the play to Calgary much of the first period, out-shooting the Flames 14-8.

Despite the Ducks first period effort, Calgary managed to net the first goal of the game as Stephane Yelle (1, Regehr) slid the rebound of a Robyn Regehr shot past Anaheim starter Ilya Bryzgalov to make it 1-0.

In the second period the Ducks evened the contest.  Andy McDonald fed Teemu Selanne (2, McDonald, Kunitz) streaking toward the net.  Selanne beat Miikka Kiprusoff high over the blocker to tie the game 1-1 at 7:49 of the period.

Niedermayer got the winner 14:23 into period three with the Ducks on the power play.  Niedermayer (2, Perry, Getzlaf) carried the rebound of a Corey Perry shot around the net and fed it in front.  The puck deflected off a Calgary defenseman’s skate and in for the game-winner.
