Niedermayer a Finalist for Norris
ANAHEIM, Calif. - The National Hockey League announced today that Mighty Ducks defenseman Scott Niedermayer has been nominated for the Norris Trophy, given each year to the defenseman who demonstrates the greatest all-round ability at the position throughout the season. The winner is selected by a poll of members of the Professional Hockey Writers Association at the conclusion of the regular season.

The 32-year-old defenseman set single-season career high for assists (50) and points (63) in 2005-2006, finishing sixth in NHL in points and tied for fourth in assists by a defenseman. He played in all 82 regular season games for the Ducks, breaking franchise marks for assists and points by a defenseman. In addition, he led the club with 25 minutes 30 seconds average time on ice and was second overall on the team in assists.

Niedermayer won the award following the 2003-2004 hockey season (his first nomination), when he recorded 14-40=54 points in 81 games, finishing tied for second among NHL defensemen in scoring and third overall on the Devils roster. The Edmonton, Alberta, native was also selected to the NHL's First All-Star Team for his efforts that season

Niedermayer helped the Mighty Ducks advance to the Western Conference Semi-Finals with a 3-0 win over the Calgary Flames in Game Seven of the team's first-round series. He has 2-3=5 points in seven playoff games thus far.

The NHL Television Awards Special and ceremony will take place on June 22 in Vancouver, British Columbia.
