Game 2: Anaheim 3, Colorado 0
ANAHEIM, Calif. – Ryan Getzlaf, Ruslan Salei and Joffrey Lupul tallied and Ilya Bryzgalov extended his shutout streak to three games as the Ducks defeated the Colorado Avalanche 3-0 on Sunday afternoon at the Arrowhead Pond.

The victory gave the Ducks a 2-0 series advantage.  The two teams will meet in Game 3 on Tuesday evening in Denver.

Bryzgalov has now kept the puck out of the Anaheim net for 11 straight periods for a sequence of 229 minutes and 42 seconds.  The consecutive sequence of shutout hockey set a new rookie playoff record.

“It’s not a big deal for me. I don’t think about it,” said Bryzgalov.  “I concentrate for a game and help my team win the game.”

The Ducks, who out-shot the Avalanche 11-6 in the first period, got on the board in the closing minutes of the first.  With Anaheim on the power play, Getzlaf (2, S. Niedermayer) tipped a Scott Niedermayer shot between his legs and past Jose Theodore to give the Ducks a 1-0 lead at 18:17.  The goal was Getzlaf’s second of the playoffs.

“I think games 6 and 7 in the first round really gave us a lot of confidence. It’s just carried over from those games,” said Ducks winger Teemu Selanne. “Everybody is working so hard.”

Salei (2, Marchant, Kunitz) blasted a slap shot from the point past Theodore at 4:41 of the second period to give the Ducks a two-goal advantage.  It was Salei’s second post season goal.  The veteran defenseman only tallied once in the regular season.

At 12:24 of the second, Lupul (3, Penner, Marchant) capped the scoring for Anaheim with his third goal of the post season.

Bryzgalov stopped 22 Avs’ shots in all to get the shutout victory.

“We have a 10-minute rule. We enjoy it for 10 minutes and then we move on,” said Selanne.  “Now it’s a new series.”

NOTES: The Ducks have scored 13 unanswered goals, dating back to Game 6 (May 1) versus Calgary in the Western Conference Quarterfinals.  The last team to have 13-or-more unanswered goals in the postseason was Detroit with 14 from 5/15/95-5/23/95…More notes on Bryzgalov’s streak: Ilya Bryzgalov has tied an NHL rookie record with three consecutive shutouts(also, Toronto’s Frank McCool in April of 1945…McCool had three consecutive shutouts versus Detroit on April 6, 8 and 12).  In addition Bryzgalov’s shutout sequence stands at 229:42, the fourth longest in NHL postseason history and is the longest ever by a rookie.  Gerry McNeil previously held the record at 218:42.
