Game 3: Anaheim 4, Colorado 3 (OT)
DENVER, Colo. – Joffrey Lupul scored the game-winner for the Ducks, his fourth goal of the game, at 16:30 of overtime to lift the Ducks to a 4-3 victory over the Colorado Avalanche in Game 3 of the Western Conference semifinals on Tuesday night in Denver.

Lupul’s game-winner (7, Penner) came after a turnover inside the Avalanche zone.  Dustin Penner dished a pass to Lupul who fired a low snap shot off the stick of Avs’ defenseman Brett Clark and past Jose Theodore for the winner.

The Ducks now have a 3-0 series lead with Game 4 to be played on Thursday night at the Pepsi Center.

The Avs got things going at 19:33 of the first period when Andrew Brunette slipped a pass through the crease to Dan Hinote (1, Brunette, Dowd).  Hinote’s goal was Colorado’s first goal of the series and broke goaltender Ilya Bryzgalov’s shutout streak at 249 minutes and 15 seconds.  It is the longest by any rookie netminder in the postseason and second on the all-time list.

Lupul (4, Penner, Vishnevski) answered at 9:02 of the second period.  A terrific effort by Penner to hold the puck in the zone kept the Ducks on the attack.  Penner fed a pass from behind the net a Lupul buried a wrist shot for his first goal of the night and fourth of the postseason.

With the Ducks on the power play early in the third period, the Avalanche’s Milan Hejduk pressured the Ducks and forced a turnover inside the Anaheim zone.  Hejduk dished off to Jim Dowd (2, Hejduk, Clark) who crashed the net and scored shorthanded for his second of the playoffs.

Lupul’s patented wrist shot could not be contained by the Avs in the third period.

Later in the third period, Sean O’Donnell batted pass out of mid-air skating backwards into the Ducks zone.  The play gave the Ducks a 2-on-1 with Lupul and Todd Marchant. Lupul (5, Marchant, O’Donnell) elected to shoot and fired a rocket past the glove of Theodore.

Less than two minutes later Lupul (6, Penner) called for a puck in the high slot and rifled another wrist shot past Theodore’s glove for his third of the contest at 10:40 of the third.  The goal was the first-ever playoff hat trick in Ducks team history.

Rob Blake (3, Sakic) forced overtime at 13:35 of the third period with a heavy slap shot that got by Bryzgalov.
