DUCKS SWEEP AVALANCHE!
DENVER – Todd Marchant tallied twice and Ilya Bryzgalov stopped 40 shots to lead the Ducks over the Colorado Avalanche 4-1 in Game 4 and to a series sweep of the Avs in the Western Conference Semifinals.

The Ducks now face either Edmonton or San Jose in Western Conference Finals.

After surviving an early flurry by Colorado in the first period that included a goal by Joe Sakic (4, Tanguay, Brunette), Anaheim turned the momentum led in part by several key Bryzgalov saves.

The Ducks got on the board at 16:52 of the first as Marchant (1, Penner, S. Niedermayer) redirected a Dustin Penner pass past Jose Theodore for the veteran centerman’s first goal of the postseason.

Teemu Selanne struck for the eventual game-winner at 2:22 of the second period.  Selanne (5, Kunitz, McDonald) picked up a loose puck to the right of Theodore, faked a slap shot and banked a low shot off the netminder’s pads and in the net to give Anaheim a 2-1 lead.

Anaheim grabbed an insurance goal at 6:07 of the third period when Dustin Penner (1, Marchant, Lupul) caught a 2-on-1 pass from Marchant and buried it for his first playoff marker.

Marchant (2, Unassisted) got the empty-netter to seal the victory at 18:22 of the third period.

NOTES: The sweep was Anaheim’s third in the club’s postseason history – the other two coming against Detroit and Minnesota in 2003…This was the first time the Avalanche had been swept since the franchise moved to Colorado.  In 1986, the Quebec Nordiques were swept by Hartford in the division semifinals.
