Game Three - Oilers 5, Ducks 4
EDMONTON – Fernando Pisani and Michael Peca each tallied a goal and an assist as the Edmonton Oilers defeated the Ducks 5-4 in the third game of the Western Conference Finals on Tuesday night in Edmonton.

The victory gave the Oilers a 3-0 series lead.

After playing two periods with Toby Peterson’s (1, Murray) first period goal the only tally on the Rexall Place scoreboard, the Ducks and Oilers put on an eight-goal offensive performance in the third period.

Anaheim spotted Edmonton a four-goal lead by the 4:40 mark of the third period.

Peca (5, Unassisted), Steve Staios (1, Samsonov) and Chris Pronger (4, Spacek, Samsonov) each scored in the opening minutes of the final period.

The Ducks roared right back with three goals of their own.

Sean O’Donnell (2, McDonald, Marchant) shot a loose puck past Dwayne Roloson for his second goal of the postseason to start the Anaheim rally at 7:15 of the third period.

Teemu Selanne (6, Penner, Vishnevski) got his first of the game and sixth of the playoffs less than two minutes later to cut the Edmonton lead in half to 4-2.  Selanne bolted to the right of Roloson, faked a shot and froze the Oiler netminder sliding the puck by him at 9:13.

Two minutes after Selanne’s tally, Chris Kunitz (3, Getzlaf, Lupul) slipped a backhand into the Edmonton net to cut the lead to 4-3.

The Anaheim surge was stymied at 14:14 of the period when Pisani (9, Peca) beat Ilya Bryzgalov off an offensive zone face off for his team-leading ninth goal of the playoffs to regain the Oiler two-goal lead.

The Ducks stayed resilient tallying at 18:15 of the period.  Scott Niedermayer threw a puck toward the net that was redirected by Selanne (7, S. Niedermayer) off the in-net camera for his seventh of the playoffs.

With Bryzgalov pulled for the extra skater in the closing minute the Ducks sent an offensive flurry at the Oiler net but could not get the equalizer.

Anaheim will try to force a fifth game in Game 4 on Thursday at 5 p.m. at Rexall Place.
