Finals: Game 4 - Ducks 6, Oilers 3
EDMONTON, Alberta – The Ducks are coming back to Anaheim for Game 5.

Down 3-0 and facing elimination in their Western Conference Final series with the Edmonton Oilers, the Ducks put on a 46-shot performance in a 6-3 victory in Game 4 on Thursday night at Rexall Place.

“We felt we were down 3-0 and we hadn't played that poorly,” said head coach Randy Carlyle.  “And we just found a way in these last two games to score nine goals.”

Veteran goaltender JS Giguere made his first start since Game 5 of the Ducks’ conference quarterfinal series against Calgary making 20 saves in the contest.

After spending every minute of the first three games tied or behind, the Ducks got 25 first period shots on Dwayne Roloson resulting in three Anaheim goals.

The Ducks were led offensively in the contest by young forwards Dustin Penner, Ryan Getzlaf and Joffrey Lupul.

"We've had a good solid effort from everyone in the room,” said Penner.  “There's no give up in our locker room right now."

Penner (2, Unassisted) scored the first of his two goals at 7:28 of the first period.  The rookie winger banked a shot off the skate of Edmonton defenseman Jaroslav Spacek to give the Ducks a 1-0 lead.

Penner (3, Selanne, Marchant) gave Anaheim a two-goal lead later in the third with a turnaround wrister that got past Roloson at 15:11 of the first period.

The Ducks were the beneficiary of two 5-on-3 advantages in the first period and capitalized on their second one at 19:18 of the first period.  Ryan Getzlaf (3, McDonald, S. Niedermayer) fired a one-timer into the Edmonton net for his third goal of the playoffs to give the Ducks a 3-0 lead.

Marc-Andre Bergeron (2, Pronger, Samsonov) scored a power play marker for Edmonton with a hard slap shot over Giguere’s glove to cut the Anaheim lead to 3-1 at 3:30 of the second period.

Ruslan Salei (3, O’Donnell, Pahlsson) got the three-goal lead back for the Ducks with a slap shot from the point that slipped by Roloson along the ice and just inside the near-post at 5:42 of the second period.

The Oilers would climb back into the game in the second period cutting the Anaheim lead to 4-3.  Ryan Smyth (5, Horcoff) tipped a Shawn Horcoff shot in at 7:46 and Georges Laraque (1, Pronger) got his first of the postseason at 10:01.

Lupul (8, Marchant) made it 5-3 for Anaheim with a quick wrist shot off an offensive zone face off at 18:22 of the second period.

Anaheim got an empty-net goal from Lupul (9, Marchant, Getzlaf) at the 18:50 mark of the third period to seal the 6-3 Game 4 victory.

Game 5 will be played at the Arrowhead Pond of Anaheim on Saturday at 6 p.m.
