Mighty Ducks of Anaheim Announce Roster Moves

ANAHEIM, Calif. – The Mighty Ducks of Anaheim announced today that the National Hockey League (NHL) club has reassigned center Ryan Getzlaf,  left wing Dustin Penner and right wing Corey Perry to the Portland Pirates, Anaheim’s primary development affiliate in the American Hockey League. 

Getzlaf, 21 (5/10/85), played in 57 games with Anaheim in the 2005-06 season, recording 14-25=39 points, 22 penalty minutes (PIM) and a plus/minus rating of +6.  His nine power play goals established a new club rookie record for power play goals in a season.  In 17 games with Portland during the regular season, Getzlaf scored 8-25=33 points with 36 PIM. 

In 16 Stanley Cup Playoff games, the Regina, Sask., native collected 3-4=7 points and 13 PIM.  Through games of May 27, Getzlaf ranks tied for second in the NHL in goals and power play goals (2) among rookies.  His three (2-1=3) power play points and 38 shots ranks second among all rookies.  Getzlaf was Anaheim’s first choice (1st round, 19th overall) in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft.

Penner, 23 (9/28/82), played in 19 regular season games with Anaheim this past season, scoring 4-3=7 points, 14 PIM and a +3.  After being recalled from Portland on April 27, the 6-4, 245-pound winger recorded 3-6=9 points, 12 PIM and a +10 in 13 playoff games.  Through games of May 27, Penner ranks tied for second in the NHL in goals and points among rookies.  In addition, he ranks first in rookie shots (41), first in rookie assists and his plus/minus ranks fourth overall in the NHL, and first among rookies.  In four Calder Cup playoff games this season prior to his recall, Penner scored 2-3=5 points.

With the Pirates, the Winkler, Manitoba native played in 57 games this season, scoring 39-45=84 points with 68 penalty minutes and an AHL leading +41 rating. Despite missing 22 Portland games while with Anaheim, Penner ranked first on the club in goals and second in points (Ryan Shannon, 27-59=86 points).  He finished the 2005-06 season fifth in the AHL in goals, 11th in the AHL in scoring and was named to the AHL second All-Star Team.  Penner signed as a free agent on May 12, 2004.

Perry, 21 (5/16/85), played in 56 games with Anaheim in the 2005-06 season, recording 13-12=25 points, 50 PIM and a +1.  In 19 regular season games with Portland this season, the Peterborough, Ontario native scored 16-18=34 points with 32 PIM and a +7. 

Perry appeared in 11 Stanley Cup Playoff games for Anaheim, collecting 0-3=3 points and 16 PIM.  He was Anaheim’s second choice (1st round, 28th overall) in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft.

Portland plays Hershey at the GIANT Center in Hershey, Penn. in Game 7 of the Calder Cup Eastern Conference Final on Tuesday at 4:00 p.m. PT.
