Kings Rookies 6, Ducks Rookies 5

EL SEGUNDO, Calif. - Matt Moulson tallied twice to lead the Los Angeles Kings rookies over the Ducks rookies 6-5 in the first game of the Pacific Division Shootout at Toyota Sports Center.

Ryan Carter scored twice for Anaheim and Drew Miller, Bobby Ryan and Colby Genoway each added a goal.

Los Angeles took an early 2-0 lead in the first period on goals from Gabe Gauthier and Anze Kopitar.

All of Anaheim's goals in the contest came on the power play with four coming with a 5-on-3 advantage.

Miller buried a Brendan Mikkelson feed at the side of Kings netminder Jonathan Bernier at 9:36 of the first and Carter got the first of his two goals on a similar play off a pass from Miller at 13:54 to tie the contest.

The Kings retook the lead as Eric Werner sprung Chris Korchinski out of the penalty box on a breakaway.  Korchinski beat Ducks goaltender David McKee to give the Kings a 3-2 lead.

Anaheim's top pick in last year's entry draft, Ryan, scored another 5-on-3 power play goal for the Ducks with a wrap-around goal from Tim Kraus and Miller to tie the game 3-3 at 19:13 of the first period.

Moulson broke the tie with his first goal at 2:30 of the second period and gave the Kings a 5-3 advantage with his second goal of the game at 11:52 of the middle frame.

Genoway cut the lead to 5-4 at 16:28 of the second on a power play goal from Brian Salcido and Brett Skinner.

The Kings and Ducks traded third period power play goals with LA's Werner scoring on the 5-on-3 at 5:25 and Carter tallying at 11:47 of the third.

Anaheim will face the Phoenix Coyotes rookies tomorrow at 4 p.m.

NOTES:

In all, 26 minor penalties were whistled in the game - 14 on the Ducks and 12 on the Kings Anaheim was 5-for-15 on the power play while the Kings were 2-for-12. The only fight of the game came with 12:47 remaining in the third period and featured Anaheim's Tommy Maxwell and LA's Richard Petiot. The Coyotes rookies overcame a 5-2 third period deficit to defeat the San Jose Sharks rookies 6-5 in overtime of the first game of the evening.
