Selanne Named NHL 1st Star for November

ANAHEIM, Calif. - The National Hockey League (NHL) announced today that Anaheim Ducks right wing Teemu Selanne has been named the NHL's First Star for the month of November.

Selanne, 36 (7/3/70), led the NHL in scoring in the month of November with 10-13=23 points with a plus/minus rating of +7. On Nov. 22 at Colorado, the Helsinki, Finland native became just the 36th player in NHL history to score 500 career NHL goals. Three days earlier, Selanne had a career-high and franchise record-tying five assists vs. Phoenix. On Nov. 26 versus Calgary, he collected his 600th point as a Duck and scored the game winning goal to move into first place on the all-time franchise list for most game winning goals (45).

Selanne leads the Ducks in scoring with 11-20=31 points and ranks T-7th in the NHL (1st in the Western Conference) in points. In addition, he ranks T-6th in the NHL in power play goals, T-9th in the NHL in assists and T-3rd in the NHL in power play points.

Ducks defenseman Chris Pronger was also considered as one of the NHL's ‘Three Stars' after finishing T-6th overall in the NHL in scoring with 3-16=19 points with a +11 rating in 15 games in November. His 19 points were first among league defensemen.

The Ducks are off to the best start in franchise history having earned standings points (44 out of a possible 54 points) in 25 of 27 games this season. Only three teams in the history of the NHL have recorded more points after 27 games: the Boston Bruins in 1929-30 (23-4-0, 46 pts.), the Detroit Red Wings in 2001-02 (22-3-2, 46 pts.) and the 1979-80 Philadelphia Flyers (19-1-7, 45 pts.).

The Ducks take on the Los Angeles Kings tomorrow at STAPLES Center at 1 p.m. in the first of a home-and-home series, as the two teams play again on Sunday, Dec. 3 at 5 p.m. at Honda Center.
