Selanne Added to All-Star Roster

ANAHEIM, Calif. - The National Hockey League (NHL) announced today that Anaheim Ducks right wing Teemu Selanne was selected to appear in his 10th NHL All-Star Game. In addition, second-year right wing Ryan Getzlaf was chosen to take part in the NHL YoungStars game. Both events take place at American Airlines Arena in Dallas, Texas as part of the NHL's All-Star celebration, Jan. 23-24.

Entering play today, Selanne leads the NHL in game-winning goals with seven and power play goals with 15, while also being tied for the league lead in overall goal scoring with 28 on the season. The 36-year-old (7/3/70) winger tallied his 19th career hat trick in a 5-1 victory at Dallas on Jan. 11 and became the 36th player in NHL history to reach the 500-goal milestone on Nov. 22 at Colorado.

Selanne will be playing in his 10th career All-Star Game, second most among Western Conference players to starting forward Joe Sakic of the Colorado Avalanche, who will be making his 12th career appearance. Selanne earned MVP honors in the 1998 All-Star Game in Vancouver, becoming the first European player to register a hat trick in All-Star competition.

Getzlaf, 21 (5/10/85), is appearing in his second NHL season. He has played in all 46 games for the Ducks in 2006-2007, with his 18 goals ranking tied for second on the Anaheim roster. Getzlaf has also scored the deciding goal in shootouts on two occasions this season.

The Regina, Saskatchewan native appeared in 57 regular season games in his rookie season, posting 14-25=39 points. He added 3-4=7 points in 16 Stanley Cup Playoff contests.

Both the NHL All-Star and YoungStar players were selected by the NHL's Hockey Operations Department, in consultation with League General Managers.

Selanne and Getzlaf join Ducks captain Scott Niedermayer and head coach Randy Carlyle in representing the Ducks at the NHL's All-Star celebration. Carlyle was named the Western Conference head coach on Jan. 5 after the Ducks posted the best winning percentage in the Conference through the first half of the NHL season. Niedermayer was named a starter on Jan. 9, after receiving the most fan votes among Western Conference defensemen.

The 2007 NHL All-Star Celebration, hosted by the American Airlines Center in Dallas, will feature live national broadcasts of the NHL YoungStars Game presented by Upper Deck and Dodge Nitro/NHL SuperSkills event on Tuesday, Jan. 23, and the NHL All-Star Game on Wednesday, Jan. 24 on VERSUS in the United States and CBC and RDS in Canada starting at 8 p.m., ET. NASN, the NHL's exclusive broadcast partner in Europe, will provide live to more than 25 countries and territories in Europe. NHL RADIO on Westwood One will provide exclusive, national radio coverage in the United States and Canada, while Sirius Satellite Radio and XM Satellite Radio each will provide radio play-by-play coverage.
