McDonald In, Niedermayer Out of All Star Game

ANAHEIM, Calif. - The National Hockey League (NHL) announced today that Anaheim Ducks center Andy McDonald was selected to appear in his first NHL All-Star Game. McDonald will replace Henrik Zetterberg of the Detroit Red Wings. In addition, it was announced that Anaheim captain Scott Niedermayer will not play in the All-Star Game due to a stress fracture in his right foot, an injury that was discovered following the club's game vs. Colorado on Jan. 13. Niedermayer is not expected to miss any regular season contests. The 55th NHL All-Star Game takes place Jan. 24 in Dallas, Texas.

McDonald enters tonight's game with 12-33=45 points and a +8 rating in 49 games. He ranks second on the club in points (45), trailing only Teemu Selanne. The 29-year-old McDonald (8/25/77) has 22 points (3-19=22) in his last 20 games.

A native of Strathroy, Ontario, McDonald is playing in his seventh NHL season. He had a breakout campaign in 2005-2006, scoring 34-51=85 points with a +24 rating in 82 regular season games. He led the Ducks in assists and game-winning goals (7) while ranking second in goals and points (Selanne).

McDonald was signed by Anaheim as a free agent on April 3, 2000, following four years at Colgate University.

McDonald joins Selanne, Ryan Getzlaf (YoungStars game) and head coach Randy Carlyle in representing the Ducks at the NHL's All-Star celebration. Carlyle was named the Western Conference head coach on Jan. 5 after the Ducks posted the best winning percentage in the Conference through the first half of the NHL season.

Niedermayer was named a starter on Jan. 9, after receiving the most fan votes among Western Conference defensemen.

The 2007 NHL All-Star Celebration, hosted by the American Airlines Center in Dallas, will feature live national broadcasts of the NHL YoungStars Game presented by Upper Deck and Dodge Nitro/NHL SuperSkills event on Tuesday, Jan. 23, and the NHL All-Star Game on Wednesday, Jan. 24 on VERSUS in the United States and CBC and RDS in Canada starting at 8 p.m., ET. NASN, the NHL's exclusive broadcast partner in Europe, will provide live coverage to more than 25 countries and territories in Europe. NHL RADIO on Westwood One will provide exclusive, national radio coverage in the United States and Canada, while Sirius Satellite Radio and XM Satellite Radio each will provide radio play-by-play coverage.
