Ducks Rookies Fall to Sharks, 2-1

Torrey Mitchell and Logan Couture scored goals as the San Jose Sharks defeated the Anaheim Ducks 2-1 Saturday night in a Rookie Game in front of a capacity crowd (approximately 700) at Anaheim ICE.

Andy Schneider scored the Anaheim goal 8:59 into the third period to cut the deficit to 2-1. Timo Pielmeier stopped 29-of-30 shots for San Jose to earn the win. Gerald Coleman made 19 stops for the Ducks.

Schneider's goal came with a man advantage. The defenseman's slap shot from the point deflected off a Sharks defender, beating Pielmeier on his stick side. Bobby Ryan and Brendan Mikkelson assisted on the tally.

Ryan, the heralded Ducks prospect taken second overall in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft, was involved in a second-period fight with the Sharks' Frazer McLaren.Neither landed a good shot as they went to the ground.
