Ducks and Honda Center Team Up with Red Cross

Samueli Foundation, Honda Center & Anaheim Ducks Donate $100,000 To Begin The Day’s Effort

Ducks captain Chris Pronger takes a donation.

Honda Center, the Anaheim Ducks, ABC7, KABC Talk Radio and KLOS teamed with the American Red Cross of Orange County to host a fundraising drive at Honda Center Friday to support the victims of the recent Southern California wildfires.  This was the third time that Honda Center and the Anaheim Ducks hosted a fundraising event with the American Red Cross; the two others were following the Laguna Beach fires in 1993 and Hurricane Katrina in 2005.

In addition to donations collected from community members attending the event, the Samueli Foundation, Honda Center and the Anaheim Ducks together made a contribution in the amount of $100,000.

Ducks Executive Vice President/General Manager Brian Burke receives a donation.

“These wildfires have affected each and every one of us in Southern California,” said Honda Center President/CEO and Ducks Executive Vice President/COO Tim Ryan. “We are proud to have local owners that support this community and allow us the privilege of teaming with the American Red Cross to help bring aid where it’s needed.”

Ducks players, coaches and staff were on hand to help with collection of monetary donations only, which will be divided among the seven counties that were affected by the fires. The donations collected will be used to provide Red Cross services to those affected by the fires.  Assistance to individuals and families may include shelter, clothing, food, medical supplies, rent assistance, security deposits, mental health counseling and advocacy and referrals. Television station ABC7 along with KABC Talk Radio and KLOS will be on hand, doing live remotes broadcasts from Honda Center throughout the day.

The American Red Cross, a humanitarian organization led by volunteers, provides relief to victims of disasters and helps people prevent, prepare for, and respond to emergencies. The Orange County Chapter of the organization has been providing services to the community since 1898. Officially recognized in 1965, the Orange County Chapter now serves 34 cities and covers more than 950 square miles. Those wishing to contribute to American Red Cross disaster relief to support people affected by the California Wildfires, but unable to make it to Honda Center on Friday are urged to visit www.oc-redcross.org or call (714) 481-5300.
