“Although we try to be active in the community throughout the year, the holiday season is a special time for us,” said Ducks owner Susan Samueli. “Our players look forward to this annual visit to CHOC, as they enjoy spending time with the children and sharing the excitement of the holidays. Our partnership with CHOC has provided great opportunities to create special memories.”
Ducks players engaged in activities with the children such as air hockey, video games and arts and crafts. They also made visits to patients who are not well enough to leave their beds. In addition, players signed autographs, posed for pictures and spent time with parents and siblings of the patients.
During the visit to CHOC, Ducks players also distributed donated Wild Wingers Kids Club kits to patients. The Kids Club kits were purchased by fans who contributed to the CHOC donation drive, which continues until Jan.1, 2008. The kit contains a variety of items, including Ducks merchandise and game tickets. In addition, players handed out Hockey Fights Cancer blankets on behalf of the NHL’s league-wide initiative, which is celebrating its 10th anniversary this season. Hockey Fights Cancer’s goal is to raise money and awareness for national and local organizations involved in cancer care and research. To date, the nonprofit organization has raised more than $9 million.
