Ducks, Pronger to Raise Cancer Awareness
Captain Chris Pronger Will Wear a Hockey Fights Cancer Commemorative Patch on his Game Jersey Which Will be Autographed and Donated to an Online Auction
“We’re pleased to once again be involved with the Hockey Fights Cancer campaign,” said Ducks Executive Vice President/General Manager Brian Burke. “The NHL has contributed immensely to this cause over the last 10 years and we’ll continue to do so until a cure is found.”
Following Sunday’s contest, Pronger will autograph his game-worn jersey as the club will donate it to an online auction benefiting Hockey Fights Cancer. Fans and supporters will have the opportunity to bid on a team captain’s game-worn jersey from each of the NHL’s 30 clubs. The online auction can be accessed on both NHL.com and NHLPA.com beginning on Jan. 17 at 3 p.m. PST. Bidding will conclude on Jan. 31 at 6 p.m. PST. Each autographed jersey will be accompanied with a Letter of Authenticity from the NHL and NHLPA.
Earlier this season, the Ducks participated in another celebration of Hockey Fights Cancer’s 10th Anniversary as the club’s executive management, coaches and broadcasters wore commemorative pink ties for the Ducks’ contest versus the Edmonton Oilers on Oct. 28, 2007. In addition, in support of October’s Breast Cancer Awareness Month, all Ducks players wore Hockey Fights Cancer decals on their helmets throughout the month. Select player helmets were autographed and auctioned online with proceeds benefiting the Mike O’Donnell memorial fund at the USC/Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center. O’Donnell, who served as Honda Center’s Senior Vice President and General Manager, passed away in August 2007 after a three-year battle with cancer.
