Goaltender J.S. Giguere and right wing Teemu Selanne will be honored in pre-game ceremonies this weekend in recognition of recent milestones.
On Friday, March 28 vs. San Jose, Giguere will be honored for establishing new club records in both wins and shutouts. At the following home contest on Sunday, March 30 vs. Dallas, Selanne will be recognized for recently breaking the franchise scoring record and collecting his 600th NHL assist. The Ducks will present both players with gifts from the organization commemorating their milestones.
In 379 contests as an Anaheim Duck, Giguere has posted a 181-137-48 record with a 2.37 goal-against average (GAA) and .917 save percentage (SV%). On Feb. 1, Giguere recorded his 28th career shutout (all with Anaheim) in a 1-0 shootout loss at St. Louis. With the shutout, he passed Guy Hebert (27) as the club’s all time leader in the category. In addition, Giguere passed Hebert (173) in the all-time franchise wins category on Feb. 17 at Honda Center. Stopping 23-of-25 shots in a 4-2 win vs. the Calgary Flames, Giguere earned his record-breaking 174th victory as an Anaheim Duck.
In just his seventh game after returning to the Ducks for the remainder of the 2007-08 season, Selanne recorded his 670th career point in an Anaheim uniform on Feb. 17 vs. Calgary. The point came in the form of an assist on a goal scored by center Ryan Carter. Selanne’s 323-362=685 career points as a Duck surpass Paul Kariya’s previous record of 300-369=669. He is the Ducks’ all-time leader in points, goals, power play goals (117) power play points (277), game-winning goals (53) and plus/minus (+116). Selanne reached the 600-assist milestone on Feb. 24 vs. Chicago at Honda Center in a three-goal, five-point effort (3-2=5), matching his career high for points in a game.
