Teemu Selanne (far left) was among the Ducks to stop and chat with fans who greeted their arrival at Honda Center.

A day after seeing their 2007-08 season come to a heartbreaking end in Dallas, the Ducks returned home to Orange County on Monday morning for the first day of what should be a busy offseason.

After their final flight as a team this season, most of the Ducks who came back to Honda Center on the team bus were greeted by approximately 30 fans near the Southeast Entrance at around 11 a.m.

Two of those fans were Tammy Sides of Cypress and Dean Morris of Anaheim, who along with a few others in their group initially came out to the arena at midnight.

“We stayed until about 3:45 in the morning because we weren’t sure when they were coming,” said Morris, whose group would get some rest before returning later in the morning. “We just wanted show support and let them know that they still have fans win or lose.’

While the circumstances on how the Ducks season ended were much different than one season prior, Sides made a point to show the team the same amount of adulation.

“We’re true fans,” said Sides, whose group also greeted the Ducks when they returned home from Dallas after Game 4 of the Western Conference Quarterfinals. “You’ve got to take the good with the bad. Last year we went all the way. This year unfortunately we’re out in round one, but you’ve still got to support your team regardless.”

Loyalty to the Ducks is what brought fan Angelique Gianas of Ontario, clad in a 2007 Stanley Cup Final Ducks jersey, out to greet the team in the morning.

“I’ve been a fan since before they were even making the playoffs,” Gianas said. “The team is so wonderful with the fans and the community that they deserve a pat on the back no matter what.”

Although the Ducks’ playoff exit was quicker than many had imagined, the contingent of fans that greeted the players this morning were quick to point out that the 2007-08 season was filled with many high points.

“They’ve had a fantastic year,” Gianas said. “It was the second year in a row of over 100 points and there were so many individual records. “They deserve all the cheering that they can possibly get.”
