Ducks Rank 5th in ESPN The Magazine
In addition, the Ducks are the only NHL team to rank among the top 10. Only the Ducks, Angels, Colts and Spurs have been ranked in the top 10 each of the last two seasons.
Criteria for rankings were based on eight categories: Title track, Ownership, Coaching, Players, Fan Relations, Affordability, Stadium Experience and Bang for the Buck. The Ducks were the highest-ranked team in the Los Angeles/Orange County market.
Here was the summary ESPN The Magazine printed about the Ducks:
Title Track: 10
Fan Relations: 5
Stadium Experience: 21
Bang for the Buck: 8
By becoming the first West Coast team to win the Stanley Cup since the Victoria (B.C.) Cougars, in 1925, Anaheim scored a 33-place Title Track jump and NHL bragging rights in our Standings. Another big factor in the team's leap: The Ducks don't duck civic responsibilities. The team donates equipment and conducts clinics in schools to jump-start a street hockey program. It also sponsors charity events like Casino Night, where the floor of the Honda Center is transformed into a casino, and players dress to a theme (2008: Roaring '20s speakeasy) and mingle with fans. The $170,000 raised this year funded college scholarships for the Orangewood Children's Foundation. Throw in work with the Children's Hospital of Orange County, which raised more than $120,000 for a new teen room on the oncology floor, and you have a team that's as skilled at cutting checks as it is at finishing them.
